On-Site Laser Shaft Alignment

Using Pruftechnik's Rotalign Ultra IS we can laser align your coupled shafts to specifications base on the RPM of the machine. Properly aligned machines reduce vibration and noise levels, maintains proper internal clearances and eliminates the possibility of shaft/bearing failure due to cyclic fatigue. Proper alignment has also been known to reduce power consumption. We can also laser align your belt driven equipment and insure proper belt tension.

Why Shaft Alignment Matters

Do not be lulled into a sense of complacency by believing that a flexible coupling will compensate any shaft misalignment. The flexibility of a coupling is made to handle the torque at startup, not shaft misalignment. The fact is that while a coupling may withstand several thousandths of an inch of misalignment, the bearings and seals will not. Shafts should be aligned to the offset and angular tolerances listed below for optimal performance.

Shaft Alignment Tolerances (Short Couplings)

Excellent Acceptable
RPM Offset (Mils) Angularity (Mils/Inch) Offset (Mils) Angularity (Mils/Inch)
600 5.0 1.0 9.0 1.5
900 3.0 0.7 6.0 1.0
1200 1.0 0.5 4.0 0.8
1800 0.5 0.3 3.0 0.5
3600 1.0 0.2 1.5 0.3
7200 0.5 0.1 1.0 0.2
