Why Shaft Alignment Matters
Do not be lulled into a sense of complacency by believing that a flexible coupling will compensate any shaft misalignment. The flexibility of a coupling is made to handle the torque at startup, not shaft misalignment. The fact is that while a coupling may withstand several thousandths of an inch of misalignment, the bearings and seals will not. Shafts should be aligned to the offset and angular tolerances listed below for optimal performance.
